The distribution of linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (LAS) and sulfophenylcarboxylic acids (SPC) has been characterized in water and sediment of five Iberian estuaries and a saltmarsh channel. The highest concentrations of LAS and SPC were detected in shallow zones close to discharge points of untreated urban effluent, and decreased sharply with increasing distance from these. SPC homologues of between 3 and 12 carbon atoms were detected, although their concentrations were several orders of magnitude lower than the corresponding LAS. The highest SPC concentrations found were of medium carboxylic chain lengths (C6-C8) in water, and of longer chain lengths (C9-C11) in particulate material. LAS homologues were associated preferentially with the particulate material. The vertical distribution of LAS in the water column was not homogeneous, in contrast to that presented by the SPC homologues. In the case of the Sancti Petri Channel, there was a net flow of LAS exportation into the Bay of Cádiz, of -38.6 kg day(-1), and a net flow for SPC of -6.0 kg day(-1). The daily mass input of LAS and their biodegradation intermediates from the Sancti Petri Channel to Cadiz Bay was 44.6 kg.  相似文献

An experimental study was performed to evaluate the bond strength between two concrete layers of different ages, considering different mixtures of added concrete, with different strengths. The specimens first had the roughness of the substrate surface increased by sand blasting. Later, the new concrete was added. Afterwards, slant shear tests were performed to quantify the bond strength in shear. These tests indicated that increasing the compressive strength of the added concrete relative to the compressive strength of the substrate concrete improves the bond strength and changes the rupture mode from adhesive to monolithic. A finite element analysis showed that, increasing the difference between the compressive strengths of the added concrete and the substrate concrete, higher values of normal stress are present in the interface, for the same level of shear stress. The study presented in this paper reveals that the added concrete, normally with higher compressive strength than the substrate concrete, may possibly have an influence on concrete-to-concrete bond strength. Therefore, design of shear at the interface between concrete cast at different ages, according to Eurocode 2, could be improved, since here only the lowest strength concrete is considered.  相似文献

This article provides a practical design methodology to calculate an optimal filter for noise reduction in the readout of charge-coupled devices (CCDs) taking into account the charge transfer and feedthroughs due to capacitive coupling in the CCD. A detailed analysis of the dynamics of the video signal and charge transfer is presented, including the circuital modeling of the output stage of the CCD and the dynamics of the electronics in the video chain before the analog-to-digital (AD) converter. This model is used to compute an optimal filter that minimizes the variance of the pixel noise and uses the samples of the charge transfer, before the charge is fully settled. This is necessary to enhance the performance of previous results that also use optimal filters but do not use the transition samples, while also reducing the pixel readout time, resulting in faster readouts. As a proof of concept for the optimal filter, we present novel experimental results using a Skipper CCD, which has a floating sense node that allows to measure the charge packet an arbitrary number of times. However, this technique can be applied to any CCD that has a readout system that digitally samples the video signal.  相似文献

This paper presents four of the most employed nanosatellite's Electrical Power System (EPS) architectures, comparing their efficiency through simulations and experiments. Every circuit architecture has been mathematically modeled in order to discuss the solar panel control technique and the overall architecture efficiency. Solar panels and EPS components have been analytically modeled and tested in order to comprehend their impact on the EPS efficiency. A test stand has been proposed to evaluate the circuits, emulating the solar irradiance and the nanosatellite power consumption. The following electrical power systems have been designed, implemented, and tested: the directly coupled architecture, the very low dropout (VLDO) voltage regulator architecture, the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) with an integrated circuit, and the MPPT architecture with a discrete boost regulator. A case study has been presented, testing all the EPS architectures according to the Floripa-Sat I (1U CubeSat) power consumption profile. Experiments results have shown that, although the MPPT boost regulator architecture harvest more energy, it is the VLDO architecture that presents the best overall efficiency.  相似文献

A methodology is presented for assessing the expected loss of human lives due to the structural damage, failure of contents and non-structural components inside buildings during earthquakes. This approach estimates human life losses considering whether the structure collapses (partial or totally) or not. Entrapment and entrapment fatality rates are calculated using available data from worldwide literature and newspapers of 50 collapsed buildings, which information is reasonably reliable. We apply this methodology to one example of a five-floor RC frame building of typical office occupancy. Vulnerability functions are presented relating the intensity of the earthquake to the loss of human lives inside buildings, considering different times of occurrence of the earthquakes: daytime, commuting time and nighttime. Uncertainties in all parts of the process are very large, but they are formally addressed and taken into account. This methodology may improve the risk assessment for insurances purposes, optimisation of the cycle of life, mitigation strategies, risk control and tolerable risk.  相似文献

Surrogate models provide a powerful method for simplifying calculations within complex simulations. While surrogate models are broadly applied within chemical engineering, little research exists investigating the level of surrogacy's impact on a simplified process model. In this work, artificial neural networks (ANN) and Kriging models are used as surrogate models at the process, process unit, and thermodynamic levels for a CO2 amine scrubbing process. The surrogated models are evaluated against an Aspen Plus simulation for accuracy, convergence behavior, computational cost, and ability to extrapolate. The thermodynamic and process unit models can better handle discontinuous, non-smooth behavior, and convergence issues in the surrogated truth model, but poor conditioning in the final system of equations results in a lower accuracy and convergence rate than the process level surrogate. Beyond model accuracy, availability of diverse data, intended re-usability, and the desired outputs must be considered when selecting a level of abstraction.  相似文献

The environmental impact reduction and operating costs savings associated with the purification and recovery of solvent waste in the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API's) were investigated. A software toolbox has been developed that combines Aspen Plus® process simulation with SimaPro® and Ecosolvent life cycle assessment (LCA) databases. A LCA approach was used in order to consider the environmental impact beyond pharmaceutical production plant boundaries. The feasibility of a relatively small flexible equipment-skid capable of recovering multiple solvent waste streams was evaluated. Distillation and pervaporation were considered to separate binary waste solvent mixtures. Optimum distillation reflux ratio and feed stage were determined to maximize the environmental impact reductions and operating cost savings. The optimum reflux ratio was significantly higher than 1.2 times the minimum reflux ratio suggested by traditional heuristics. The emissions and cost reductions obtained were as much as 49% and 56% higher, respectively, as compared to using the conventional optimum reflux ratio. A comprehensive cash flow analysis showed that the recovery of low volume solvent waste streams is economically feasible, despite traditional thinking. Three case studies from Pfizer are presented to show how our software tool can aid in green engineering decision making.  相似文献

Dynamic reductive kinetic resolutions of racemic 3‐arylalkanones have been performed by the proper combination of an alcohol dehydrogenase and a basic anionic resin. The best results were found for the bioreduction with the alcohol dehydrogenase type A from Rhodococcus ruber DSM 44541 overexpressed in Escherichia coli (E. coli/ADH‐A) and the commercially available evo‐1.1.200, while the Amberlite IRA‐440 C and the DOWEX‐MWA‐1 resins allowed efficient in situ racemizations. Reaction conditions were optimized in terms of enzyme source and loading, type and amount of resin, pH, temperature and reaction times, obtaining a series of (R,R)‐substituted propan‐2‐ols with good conversions and both diastereoselectivity and stereoselectivity. As a proof of concept, the subsequent intramolecular cyclization of a selected propan‐2‐ol substrate afforded a valuable isochroman heterocycle without any loss of the optical purity.

The counties of Pedra and Venturosa have one of the largest natural radioactive occurrences of Brazil. The large farms producing milk in the state of Pernambuco are located in these counties. The forage plants cultivated on those farms have high concentrations of 228Ra, a naturally occurring descending radionuclide from the 232Th series. The 228Ra is transferred to the forage plants, and once ingested by the lactating cow, this radionuclide is rapidly transferred to the milk. Thus, milk intake is an important route for 228Ra of incorporation by the human consumer and may induce the appearance of bone sarcoma. Accordingly, the aim of the present study was to determine the concentrations of 228Ra in milk produced in the Pedra and Venturosa farms, in order to estimate the risk of ingestion in the local population. The 228Ra was determined by actin-228 (228Ac) using the radiochemical technique of barium sulphate precipitate (BaSO4). The milk samples had concentrations of 228Ra ranging from 61 to 1338 mBq.l?1, which corresponded to the cumulative equivalent dose ranging from 0.04 to 0.1 Sv. Although the doses were low, regulatory and protective measures should be taken to study the radiotoxic effects of 228Ra in subjects in the public.  相似文献
